It is believed to have been influenced by Persian and Mughal artistic traditions, which valued elaborate decorative techniques. The Rajputs of Mewar, especially in Udaipur, became great patrons of this craft. Thikri work was used to adorn the interiors of opulent palaces, havelis, and temples. The most famous examples can be seen in the "Sheesh Mahals" (palaces of mirrors), where entire ceilings and walls were covered in this mosaic, creating a breathtaking and immersive environment.
